Website Design
Website Design Ethos
My main ethos for website design is simplicity. I get so annoyed with over complicated websites with no focus or structure. In all of my websited I implement a structured and accessible approach. I am a big fan of the content management system Joomla, and I use it to give my clients a fully configurable website.
Website Accessibility
The latest 'craze' to hit the internet is accessibility and web standards. Unlike most fads this is actually a really great advance in web design. It is now law to enable all users to be able to view a web site, no matter if they have disabilities. Therefore it is imperative to make a web site compatible with screen readers, scalable font and many other important standards.
In order to make their web sites structure stay similar to their original design many designers use nested tables. This means that the site is very hard to follow if not using the browser it is designed for. Tables were designed to store a list of text, images etc. NOT for creating web sites! Therefore it is imperative to use them properly, like in the photography section of this site where I used a table to show a selection of my photographs. Instead of using tables I use CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), this enables the site to be far more accessible to everybody.
My Work
Here is a selection of the work I have completed
F1 Brits
F1 brits is a work in progress. Developed for my girlfriend to express her thoughts and views on
Formula One I am currently using a CMS (Content Management System) to deal with the back end of the website but I am developing my PHP skills so will hopefully re-design the website soon with my own CMS! Watch this space!
